University of Arizona President Robert C. Robbins is six months into his presidency and has been spending much of his time visiting faculty, staff and students within each college and developing a strategic plan that will outline the future of the university.

A project of this magnitude needs outstanding leadership, and that is why I am pleased to announce that Dr. Elliott Cheu, Associate Dean of the College of Science, and Dr. Lisa Ordóñez, Vice Dean of the Eller College of Management, will serve as Co-Chairs of the strategic plan process.

I know.  Seriously?  Another strategic planning exercise?  The short answer is “yes,” and I’ll say straight out that I’m totally behind this, and deeply engaged in it already.  I write this Chair Talk to explain why I think this is exactly what the UA ought to be doing right now, how I believe the process is going to play out, and to describe how you can contribute your voice to the process.

A strategic planning process designed to position the University of Arizona as a major player in a world dominated by the convergence of the physical, biological and digital sciences was launched Friday by UA President Robert C. Robbins in a presentation before the Arizona Board of Regents.

University of Arizona President Dr. Robert Robbins presented his first public operational and financial review to the Arizona Board of Regents on Friday, Nov. 17. Robbins, along with other UA leadership presented the board with their important goals for the future.

This morning, I was honored to present our Operational and Financial Review of the University of Arizona to our governing board, the Arizona Board of Regents. This meeting represented the launch of our strategic planning effort, which will continue over the next year through a broadly inclusive process involving the many different stakeholders of the University. 

During a nearly hourlong Q&A, UA President Robert C. Robbins spoke about the strategic planning process he has initiated, his leadership style and his commitment to working with leaders in business, education and government. Robbins also shared his excitement about leading a "student-centric" research university with a land-grant mission.

UA President Robert C. Robbins fielded questions from members of the Faculty Senate for more than 40 minutes on Monday, touching on topics ranging from diversity to strategic planning.
