The concepts of community and innovation emerged repeatedly during a strategic planning event that drew 500 faculty, staff, students and community members. The event included audience participation and a Q&A with the committee leading the strategic planning process, moderated by President Robert C. Robbins.

The concepts of community and innovation emerged repeatedly as 500 people gathered Monday in the Student Union Memorial Center to share their thoughts about the University's future with President Robert C. Robbins and the executive committee leading the strategic planning process.

President Robert C. Robbins thanked Faculty Senate members for their participation in the strategic planning process, and gave updates on two senior vice president searches. Tony Proudfoot, interim senior vice president for marketing and communications, gave an overview of plans to create a brand platform for the UA.

Everyone who cares about the University of Arizona can and should participate in the strategic planning process, President Robert C. Robbins told classified staff and others during a meeting last week.

We are proud that President Robbins asked us to serve as co-chairs of the University of Arizona strategic plan process. We feel that this is our opportunity to give back to the place where we have both built our careers. The UA is already world-renowned and highly ranked in many areas of emphasis. However, now is the time for people across the university to come together to craft a focused roadmap that will allow us to address society’s grand challenges and prepare our next-generation workforce.

Shortly after I became president of the University of Arizona, I began talking about the need for us to work together, in a spirit of inclusivity and transparency, to create a strategic plan that will serve as the roadmap for our future.

A project of this magnitude needs outstanding leadership, and that is why I am pleased to announce that Dr. Elliott Cheu, Associate Dean of the College of Science, and Dr. Lisa Ordóñez, Vice Dean of the Eller College of Management, will serve as Co-Chairs of the strategic plan process.
