For University of Arizona Health Sciences nursing and medical students, nothing can fully prepare them for the real thing – the first time they participate in a surgery, encounter a stab wound or treat an ulcer. But there are ways to help ensure that when they do provide care to a patient with an injury for the first time, they know precisely what to do, thanks to specialists at the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) who create incredibly realistic mock wounds known as moulage.
